Robert Wagner is to blame for Natalie Wood’s death, says the captain of the boat off of which Wood reportedly drowned. Appearing on the Today show, Dennis Davern was asked whether Wagner was responsible. "Yes, I would say so. Yes," he replied. A number of details from that night 30 years ago don't sit well with him, Davern explained. "We didn't take any steps to see if we could locate her. I think it was a matter of, 'We're not going to look too hard, we're not going to turn on the searchlight, we're not going to notify anybody right now.'"

Davern acknowledged making "some terrible decisions and mistakes" himself, including lying on a police report. So why is he revealing the information now? “I've been trying to get somebody to listen for a long time,” Davern said, noting that his 2009 book on the subject contained his arguments. Wagner's publicist said he backs the new investigation and hopes new details come from "sources other than those simply trying to profit from the 30-year anniversary of her tragic death." As for Davern, "I'm not in it for any kind of profit, I'm in it for the justice of the whole situation." Click to read more. (More Robert Wagner stories.)
