Contrary to earlier reports, Mindy McCready and 5-year-old son Zander haven't disappeared, explains her rep: The country singer simply took her child from the care of her own mother, who has custody of the boy, over fears for his safety. "Since at least January, 2011, Ms. McCready has been desperately advising the court, and others involved in the Ft. Myers, Florida, proceedings, that Zander is in danger, both physically and emotionally, at [mother Gayle] Inge’s home," the singer's rep said in a statement to ABC News. "As a direct result of being a mother (not an actress, not a singer), Ms. McCready took action to ensure her son’s safety."

Inge says McCready took him several days ago. McCready's rep tells ABC that the pair "are safe, healthy and comfortable. No Amber Alert has been issued; this is not a missing child case. Law enforcement officials spoke with the child and saw Zander via Skype yesterday." In an emergency hearing yesterday, a family court judge demanded McCready return the boy or face arrest. ABC notes that McCready's battle with drugs was documented on Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew last year. (More Mindy McCready stories.)
