California Prison Psychologist Faked Rape: Police

A Sacramento prison psychologist faked her own rape in the hope her husband would move them to a safer neighborhood, authorities say. Laurie Ann Martinez even allegedly cut her lip with a pin, had a friend punch her with boxing gloves, and peed her pants to make the attack seem real. Police worked hard on her case until a prison co-worker said Martinez had talked about faking a sexual assault, the AP reports.

Police say Martinez and a friend not only staged the attack, but stole computers, credit cards, and other items from Martinez's home to fake a burglary. Both of them now face conspiracy charges and up to 3 years in prison. "If all you wanted to do is move, there's other ways than staging a burglary and rape," a police sergeant says. Martinez's husband apparently agreed: The two filed for divorce just 6 weeks after the April incident. (Read more rape stories.)
