Fires and angry words, but only a few arrests resulted last night as Denver became the latest city to end its local Occupy protest, reports the Denver Post. Police moved in just before midnight, squaring off against the remaining 40 protesters who refused to leave. Things got a little tense when two protesters started lighting shelters and equipment on fire; police and firefighters cleared the area and extinguished the flames.
Several protesters apparently responded to the confrontation with a round of Tebowing, then sang "God Bless America." Two people were arrested for felony arson, and two more for misdemeanor disobedience. "We certainly respect their First Amendment rights and it wasn't our intention to infringe on those rights," said the police chief. "But also value the rights of other citizens who live our community." (More Occupy Denver stories.)
