Edwards Seeks Trial Delay

John Edwards is suffering from an undisclosed medical condition and will be too sick to stand trial next month, his lawyers say. The former presidential candidate's attorneys filed a motion seeking to have the trial, which was due to begin Jan. 30, pushed back another 60 days, ABC reports. Edwards is accused of using $1 million in undisclosed campaign donations to cover up an extramarital affair during his 2008 presidential bid.

The nature of Edwards' medical condition was detailed in a sealed document for the judge to review. His trial was originally supposed to begin in October—but it was pushed back then on the grounds that his lawyers needed more time to review the huge amount of material turned over by the government. Since the January date was set, the government has produced another 100,000 pages of material, accoring to Edwards' lawyers. (More John Edwards stories.)
