Sure, the pundits may have deemed Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich the winners of Monday's South Carolina debate, but Jon Stewart thinks the audience was the "real star." After all, we're talking about a group of people who booed when Ron Paul mentioned the Golden Rule, but cheered loudly when Rick Perry said the state is at war with the federal government. "Woo! War against the government, led by South Carolina! That always has a good ending, right? I think I remember us clapping for this in a previous incarnation," said Stewart in a sort of Southern drawl last night.

And then there was Gingrich, the man who "managed to both win the debate and provide a fitting tribute to the late Martin Luther King." Asked whether he saw how insulting his "jobs not food stamps" comment was, particularly to the black people it was directed toward, Gingrich said he did not. This, too, got big cheers. "Hooray! Yes, hooray for your inability to comprehend when you've insulted black people! We, too, find it difficult!" Stewart said. Watch the video for more. (More Election 2012 stories.)
