Administrators at a middle school in Pennsylvania were tired of kids hiding cell phones in their boots—so they banned the boots, the Mercury reports. The new rule applies to "outdoor, open top boots" in general, but the biggest culprits are Uggs, says a district official, particularly those that reach to students' mid-calves and are lined with fleece. "Lace up, tight at the ankle boots" are still OK, says a letter from the principal.

"Students may continue to wear outdoor boots to and from school to protect them from cold, snow, and ice but need to change into a pair of sneakers or shoes before entering homeroom," it continues. The new rule was posted on Facebook, prompting a flurry of furious reactions. "It’s ineffective they will just keep finding other places. Plus my phone fits in my sneaker," wrote one commenter. Added another, "When the schools started paying to raise and clothe my children then maybe ... maybe they can have a say in dictating my child’s wardrobe." (More Uggs stories.)
