Mitt Romney is on a roll: After an impressive debate performance last night, he's No. 1 in Florida in a new poll. The Quinnipiac Poll has Romney with 38%, followed by Newt Gingrich with 29%, Ron Paul with 14%, and Rick Santorum with 12%. That's quite a difference from the last survey, released Wednesday, which showed Romney and Gingrich practically tied, the New York Times reports. Other recent polls had Gingrich in the lead.
Campaigning in Miami today, Romney and Gingrich were both asked about Puerto Rican statehood during the Hispanic Leadership Network, ABC News reports. Both gave rather vague answers: Gingrich stated that he supports "the right of the Puerto Rican people to have a referendum," adding that the people must ultimately make the decision. Romney said he is "looking forward to the time when the people of Puerto Rico make their decision about becoming a state" and promised to work with them if a November vote "comes out in favor of statehood."
