The WWII-era romance Atonement leads today's Golden Globe nominations with seven, including best drama, best actor, and best actress. Also among the seven drama contenders—there are typically five—are There Will Be Blood, No Country for Old Men, The Great Debaters, American Gangster, Michael Clayton, and Eastern Promises. No Country filmmakers Joel and Ethan Coen were also nominated for directing and for their screenplay.
Tom Hanks-driven Charlie Wilson’s War is the most-nominated comedy or musical with five nods, the AP reports. Joining it in the best picture category are Sweeney Todd, Juno, Across the Universe, and Hairspray. Cate Blanchett received two acting nominations—for Elizabeth: The Golden Age and I’m Not There—as did Philip Seymour Hoffman for The Savages and Charlie Wilson’s War. (More Golden Globes stories.)
