The FBI has flushed hundreds of counterterrorism training documents containing controversial statements about Muslims and Arabs, reports Fox News. The purge comes following a review triggered by a September Wired article, which revealed that the FBI taught agents, among other things, that Muslims were "violent," and that the Prophet Muhammad was a "cult leader." A source tells Fox that hundreds of documents hit the shredder because they propagated stereotypes, contained "factual errors," or were in "poor taste."
But an FBI spokesman put a positive spin on the review, saying the purged documents represented less than 1% of its total 160,000 pages on the subject, meaning that "the overwhelming majority of our counterterrorism materials met the FBI's standards." (More Islamophobia stories.)
