Today, a lesson in why it's not a good idea to propose to someone two days after she splits up with someone else: That's how long Salman Rushdie waited after Michelle Barish broke up with New York Giants co-owner Steve Tisch, and it did not go well for the novelist. Barish, entrepreneur Chris Barish's estranged wife, turned down Rushdie's proposal and returned the 7-carat diamond ring he gave her. But, sources assure the New York Post, she did think carefully about the offer first, ultimately deciding it was more important to focus on her daughter. (More Salman Rushdie stories.)
