Ben & Jerry's might have been, um, Linsane, to think nobody would be offended. The ice cream company recently released a limited-edition flavor in honor of New York Knicks sensation Jeremy Lin, but promptly removed the bits of fortune cookies mixed in, reports Boston.com. Pints of "Taste the Lin-Sanity," based on the 23-year-old Asian-American Harvard grad, are available only at the campus shop in Cambridge.
The first batches included fortune cookie bits inside vanilla frozen yogurt and lychee honey swirls, but the company has since swapped in a less controversial waffle cookie. "There seemed to be a bit of an initial backlash about (the fortune cookies)," said Ben & Jerry's local general manager. "But we obviously weren't looking to offend anybody and the majority of the feedback about it has been positive." In fact, he said the main reason behind the change is far more palatable: "A couple of [pints] got returned because the cookies got so soggy." (More Jeremy Lin stories.)
