This week we learned that Mitt Romney's Secret Service code name is Javelin, Rick Santorum's is Petrus, and Ron Paul's would have been Bulldog, if he didn't think Secret Service protection was another evil form of welfare. Slate reminds us that there are a few rules to these names: They need to be two or three syllables; no tongue-twisters; and family members' code names should begin with same letter. Katy Waldman writes that "an apt code name is like Cinderella’s glass slipper; it fits the wearer perfectly."
With that in mind, she lays out a match-the-protectee-with-the-code-name quiz. And no, "Snowbank" isn't Sarah Palin's other name (it's Denali). That moniker belongs to Barbara Bush. Some other first ladies:
- Nancy Reagan: Rainbow
- Hillary Rodham Clinton: Evergreen
- Michelle Obama: Renaissance
