Matt Lauer Dig to Palin: Are You Reading Papers Now ?

Katie Couric and Sarah Palin again go mano a mano this morning in a manufactured media war, and Palin's looking to win this round in her debut as co-host of the Today show. With Couric guest-hosting the competition over at Good Morning America, Matt Lauer razzed Palin yesterday by asking if she's been reading any newspapers to prepare. "Oh, here we go," Palin responded; but she seemed unfazed, later telling Breitbart News, "Game on. We’re 'going rogue' and infiltrating some turf for a day."

The whole thing smells like a manufactured media war to some. “This is what (Game Change) was really about: the expedient decisions you make to maintain victory,” one former campaign strategist tells Politico. “As a media moment, it’s like Fonzie jumping the shark.” And Palin would do best to let bygones be bygones and not even mention Couric, says one GOP consultant: “If [Palin’s] doing tit-for-tat, she’s losing. If she spends any time defending, she’s losing. If she says she’d rather talk about X or Y in American politics, then she’s winning.” Palin kicks off at 8am ET. (More Katie Couric stories.)
