The weird story of Maryland's supposed Mega Millions winner gets weirder: Now Mirlande Wilson, the McDonald's employee who said she wouldn't share the winnings with her lottery pool because she bought the ticket separately from her co-workers, claims to have hidden the winning ticket—logically, at the McDonald's where they all work. "I left my ticket there, and it’s somewhere safe that only I know about," the 37-year-old tells the New York Post. The mom of seven adds that she bought it with a "lucky dollar" she found on the McDonald's floor.
Wilson's story had already come under scrutiny from lottery officials, who said as of yesterday none of the three winners had come forward. Now one of Wilson's co-workers scoffs at the tale, telling the Post, "I don’t believe her. I didn’t believe her from the beginning, she’s always been strange. She’s an attention seeker. She likes to have all the attention on herself." Wilson, who had promised to use her winnings to help her native Haiti rebuild, says she's "waiting for things to calm down" before returning to Mickey D's to retrieve the ticket.
