On a recent White House conference call on the Buffett Rule, a reporter offered President Obama's staff an idea: Why not call it the "Romney Rule?" So far they haven't taken that suggestion, but they are giddy at the prospect of campaigning for the rule, which would ensure the wealthy pay at least 30% of their income in taxes, against Mitt Romney, who despite being fabulously wealthy pays only about 14% in taxes, the New York Times reports.

Obama will make the case for the Buffett Rule in a speech in Florida today, drumming up support ahead of the Senate's vote on it Monday. Republicans are almost guaranteed to block that vote, according to the LA Times, arguing that it is a political ploy that won't fix the budget. But the White House is stressing the idea that the rule is about fairness, notes Politico. "We’re not trying to say this solves all our economic problems, all our budget problems," a spokesman says.
