The General Services Administration is truly the gift that keeps on giving, at least for those who love tales of government malfeasance. Rep. John Mica yesterday revealed another juicy tidbit born from the probe into the agency, reports The Hill. A number of GSA officials traveled to Hawaii on a Saturday and flew back the next Friday to take care of some government business: a one-hour ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The GSA Inspector General office uncovered the trip while interviewing a GSA employee, who noted that these kinds of trips are "fairly frequent." As for whether the officials were hard at work during the trip, the employee says, "I doubt it." Explains Mica, "The Las Vegas conference was the tip of the iceberg." Two GSA-related hearings will be held next week. (More General Services Administration stories.)
