Cobain Working on Solo Album When He Died

Former Hole guitarist Eric Erlandson dropped a bombshell in an interview with Fuse.tv last week that's getting some attention now: When Kurt Cobain died, the Nirvana frontman was working on a solo album. "[Kurt] was headed in a direction that was really cool. It would have been his White Album," says Erlandson, who just released a new book about Cobain, Letters to Kurt. A rough album could be released one day, he adds, "some raw, rough acoustic thing" that would be very "intimate."

Erlandson saw Cobain play the songs he was demoing, he says. "That’s why I was really sad [when he died]. I was like, Oh man, not only are you cutting off a life, but a message to the world, a musical path is just left with … Bush and all this other stuff," he says. "He was cut short. Who knows where the music would have gone." Erlandson recently reunited with Courtney Love and the rest of Hole, Melissa Auf der Maur and Patty Schemel, to perform together for the first time in more than a decade, Gothamist reports. (And Love has been busy, of course, claiming Dave Grohl was "sexually obsessed" with Cobain.)
