Dick Clark has died of a heart attack at age 82, reports TMZ. The broadcast legend (American Bandstand, New Year's Rockin' Eve, game shows galore, blooper reels, and much, much more) had been in declining health since suffering a stroke in 2004. He reportedly had the heart attack after undergoing an unspecified outpatient procedure at an LA hospital yesterday. The obituaries are rolling in quickly:

  • New York Times: ..." the perpetually youthful-looking television host whose long-running daytime song-and-dance fest, American Bandstand, did as much as anyone or anything to advance the influence of teenagers and rock ’n’ roll on American culture, died ..."
  • Associated Press: "... the ever-youthful television host and tireless entrepreneur who helped bring rock `n' roll into the mainstream on American Bandstand, and later produced and hosted a vast range of programming from game shows to the New Year's Eve countdown from Times Square, has died."
  • USA Today: "Teen dance shows, prime-time programming, specials, games shows, made-for-TV movies, and even feature films and restaurants, the ambitious Clark made Dick Clark Productions into a thriving business that touched the worlds of music, television and film."
