Scotland Yard uncovered evidence while reviewing the Madeleine McCann case that has let it to "genuinely believe there is a possibility that she is alive," a detective announced today. Do read on, but stop holding your breath: Detectives wouldn't elaborate on the new leads. But they did release a new age progression image, showing what McCann might look like at nine years old—the age she would turn next month—and urged Portuguese authorities to reopen the case in light of the fresh "investigative opportunities."

McCann disappeared while vacationing with her family in Portugal nearly five years ago, and the official investigation ended in 2008. Scotland Yard began reviewing the case last year, and have pinpointed almost 200 new items to be investigated so far within the existing 100,000 pages of information on the case, the Telegraph reports. Officers are also "developing what they believe to be genuinely new material," Scotland Yard says. (More Madeleine McCann stories.)
