A semi-retired Florida gynecologist says he's found the holy grail of female sexuality: the G spot. To make his discovery, Dr. Adam Ostrzenski went to Poland—which allows dissection of fresh cadavers, unlike the US—to do a postmortem exam on an 83-year-old woman. He found, he writes in the Journal of Sexual Medicine, small clusters of erectile tissues housed in a tiny sac deep within the vaginal wall. (Possibly relevant side note: Ostrzenski has been the subject of controversy in the past because he has performed plastic surgery on women's genitalia.)
But the G spot, thought to boost women's orgasms, has long been a controversial topic, the Los Angeles Times notes; some aren't even convinced it exists—or think that, if it does, it's different for everyone. One sexologist in particular faults Ostrzenski for not showing that the organ he discovered has nerve endings nor that it is erectile tissue, and also failing to prove it plays a role in sexual arousal. Ostrzenski acknowledges shortcomings in his study—he was not allowed to do any histological testing on samples—but says he plans to continue his research. (More sexuality stories.)
