Elvis has left the crypt—and now there's room for a fan. A crypt in a private Memphis mausoleum where Elvis Presley was briefly entombed after his death in 1977 will be auctioned off next month, reports E! Online. The bodies of Elvis and his mother, Gladys, spent about two months in the crypt while the singer's father sought permission from authorities in Tennessee to bury them at Presley's Graceland home.
The chief of Julien's Auctions says he doesn't consider the sale of Elvis' penultimate resting place to be morbid. "If you’re an ultimate fan of Elvis Presley, it’s an opportunity,” he tells the New York Times. "It’s definitely a conversation piece. Only one person can say, ‘Hey, I’m going to be buried where Elvis Presley was.'" The lot, which has a starting price of $100,000, also includes the price of the opening and closing of the vault and crypt for burial, and the use of a chapel for a service.
