Pakistan Ambassador Squealed to US: Inquiry

Hussain Haqqani got one step closer to being tried for treason yesterday, when an investigation concluded that he was "not loyal" to Pakistan while serving as its ambassador to the US, the Washington Post reports. In a not-exactly-shocking turn, the probe found that Haqqani had indeed sent the US a message urging it to prevent a military coup in Pakistan, an affair that's become known in Pakistan as "Memogate."

The report also said Haqqani hadn't properly accounted for $2 million missing from a secret Pakistani Embassy fund. The commission sent its findings to court today. Haqqani continues to insist he had nothing to do with the memo. On Twitter today, he promised that the "one-sided proceedings of Commission that refused to hear me will be challenged by my lawyers," and said the findings were "all political, not legal."
