Immigration Reprieve 'Right Thing to Do, Period'

Allowing immigrants who were brought to the US as children to stay is the right thing to do for our economy, the right thing to do for national security, and "above all, it is the right thing to do, period," President Obama argues in an op-ed in Time today, explaining why he issued an executive order doing just that. "They are Americans in their hearts and minds, in every single way but one: on paper."

"Put yourself in their shoes. Imagine you've done everything right your entire life … only to suddenly face the threat of deportation to a country that you know nothing about." This is not, Obama stresses, amnesty, immunity, or a path to citizenship; it's "a temporary stop-gap" until Congress passes the DREAM Act.
