Really ridiculous real estate decisions apparently aren't the sole province of West Coast couples. The New York Post reports that a Hamptons couple decided to tear down their rising home and demolish its 2,025-square-foot foundation because the under-construction home was being built too far from the curb, squashing their plans to install a backyard pool. The cost of the oops? As much as $150,000.
Eric and Margaret Friedberg had apparently been on vacation during the initial part of the construction, and made the decision after discovering the error upon their return. "The framing for the first floor was completed, and they had started the framing for the second floor. They ... had to take it all down," explained a worker. It's actually the second tear-down for the couple, who ripped out the 1,674-square-foot house that originally stood on the property they purchased for $2.478 million. If that sounds excessive to you ... well, you probably don't live in the posh area. "This doesn’t even move the needle as strange in the Hamptons," says the home's builder.
