With pole dances

It seems that New Zealand's working girls have taken to attracting new customers in a rather creative way: by performing pole dances in the street, using traffic signs as the poles. The result? More than 40 bent, buckled, or otherwise busted street signs near Auckland in the past year and a half, the Telegraph reports. And here's an especially bizarre quote for you, from a city council member: "The poles are part of their soliciting equipment and they often snap them. Some of the prostitutes are big, strong people." Go ahead, try to picture that scenario.

Apparently the area has quite a prostitution problem, leading one neighborhood to become known as "Hooker's Corner." Says a resident, "We had a parcel delivered to us recently and the address was 'Hooker's Corner' and it found its way to us with no problems whatsoever." The community board has published a booklet detailing the problems, in an effort to get sex workers banned from certain areas. The booklet also reveals incidents like one in which an angry transvestite shoved a supermarket cart into a woman's car, then laid down across the hood. (More prostitute stories.)
