The alleged shooter who wounded a security guard at the anti-gay marriage Family Research Council yesterday carried a bag from Chick-fil-A, according to the Washington Post; NBC reports he was carrying materials about Chick-fil-A restaurants. Floyd Corkins, 28, reportedly volunteered at an LGBT center, CNN notes, and police say he made comments attacking the Family Research Council's policies before firing his weapon. Police are investigating the motive behind the crime; if it is judged a hate crime, the case will be put in FBI hands.

The suspect was carrying multiple rounds of ammunition as well as a handgun (apparently purchased five days ago, notes NBC), but he was stopped when the security guard he shot managed to get the gun away from him. "The security officer here is a hero as far as I'm concerned. He did his job. The person never made it past ... the front door," said Washington's police chief. The LGBT center is "shocked," says a rep. "No matter the circumstances, we condemn such violence in the strongest terms possible. We hope for a full and speedy recovery for the victim."
