And a new conspiracy theory is born. The only explanation for the latest jobs data is that President Obama has been meddling with the numbers, says former GE CEO Jack Welch. "Unbelievable jobs numbers," he tweeted. "These Chicago guys will do anything... can't debate so change numbers." Now Twitter is abuzz with the idea, BuzzFeed reports. "This just proves what a criminal Obama is. He has lied & forced his labor dept to report 7.8% Unemployment with only 114,000 jobs created," says one user. Adds another: "Umm anyone else thing the jobs numbers are rigged? A .3% drop while only adding 114K jobs? Something smells rotten."

And Mitt Romney has his own conspiracy theory to deal with: The Daily Beast reports on a video getting some attention today; it shows Romney taking something out of his pocket and putting it on the podium before Wednesday's debate. It's a cheat sheet! say his critics. Nope, counters a Romney spokesperson, just a handkerchief. (Read more conspiracy theory stories.)
