Good news for the Pakistani girl who was shot by the Taliban: She could make a full recovery, according to the top doctor of her new hospital in Birmingham, England. "Doctors ... believe she has a chance of making a good recovery on every level," said Dr. Dave Rosser. He made the remark before doctors had assessed 14-year-old Malala Yousufzai, but said she would not have been moved to Britain without having a good prognosis, Reuters reports.
"On the positive side, Malala has passed two major hurdles—the removal of the bullet and the very critical 48-hour window after surgery," said a neurosurgeon in Brooklyn. Yousufzai's family is not with her, but she is getting support from the Pakistani Consulate; her relatives may come later on. Government and hospital officials refused to discuss security for the advocate of girls' education, but an interior ministry spokesman called her safety "a priority for both Pakistan and the UK."
