The AP reported that Mitt Romney was feeling pretty optimistic about his chances tonight, so much so that he had written a 1,118-word victory speech—and hadn't prepared a concession speech. But the win went to Obama, though Romney managed to take the following states and 206 Electoral College votes:

  • Indiana (11)
  • West Virginia (5)
  • South Carolina (9)
  • Oklahoma (7)
  • Tennessee (11)
  • Georgia (16)
  • Alabama (9)
  • Nebraska (5)
  • Wyoming (3)
  • Kansas (6)
  • Louisiana (8)
  • South Dakota (3)
  • North Dakota (3)
  • Texas (38)
  • Arkansas (6)
  • Mississippi (6)
  • Utah (6)
  • Arizona (11)
  • North Carolina (15)
  • Idaho (4)
