Feds: Whitey Bulger's Immunity Claims 'Absurd'

Prosecutors are rolling their eyes over Whitey Bulger's assertions that authorities gave him permanent immunity from all prosecution for his work as an informant in the 1970s. In court documents filed on Friday, prosecutors called those claims "absurd" and "frivolous," and asked a judge to insist Bulger present proof of any such immunity deal before the trial becomes an "unduly elongated and unmanageable" morass, the Boston Herald reports.

"His attempt to foist this absurd notion upon the court demonstrates his disdain for the criminal justice system and society itself," prosecutors write. Bulger's lawyers are demanding that the court turn over all of Bulger's correspondence with the FBI, Department of Justice, and the New England Organized Crime Strike Force concerning some of his fellow Winter Hill Gang members.
