Rice Swings Back at McCain

UN Ambassador Susan Rice has finally taken a stand in the controversy over her Benghazi comments. Speaking to reporters at the UN yesterday, she defended her initial remarks, which called the attacks the result of protests over an anti-Islam video. "I relied solely and squarely on the information provided to me by the intelligence community," she said. "I made clear that the information provided to me was preliminary and that our investigations would give us the definitive answers."

Her comments follow Congressional testimony by the deputy CIA head that voiced much the same position: Rice was given faulty information. "Everyone, particularly the intelligence community, has worked in good faith to provide the best assessment based on the information available," Rice added. "None of us will rest ... until we have the answer, and the terrorists responsible for this attack will be brought to justice." Discussing John McCain's pledge to oppose her potential nomination for secretary of state, Rice called the senator's attacks "unfounded," Reuters reports.
