What happens in Vegas starts in California? Maybe, if a party-minded Nevada entrepreneur has his way. The "X Train" is one step closer to reality, reports the AP. Thanks to a newly inked deal with the Union Pacific Railroad, Las Vegas Railway Express CEO Michael Barron hopes his $100 million venture will start shuttling partygoers on Dec. 31, 2013. The "nightclub on wheels" would run on existing tracks, departing from a Fullerton, California, Amtrak station and rolling into downtown Vegas five hours later.
The conditional agreement with Union Pacific will allow the company to use a rail line that's currently limited to freight trains and hasn't served passengers since 1997. The train, which will feature big-screen TVs and two ultra lounges, will admit adults only. They'll pay $99 for a one-way ride, complete with meal and beverage; additional drinks will be available for purchase. Barron initially plans to schedule one train daily on Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and Monday, and notes that after "40 hours gambling," the Sunday drive home is "horrific." A potential customer seems to agree: "If you party really hard, it sucks driving back." (More Las Vegas stories.)
