In theory, the White House's "We the People" petition site is a great way to let Americans interact with their government. In practice, it lets a small number of morons "shame the entire nation before the world," writes Tommy Christopher at Mediaite. The latest example: The petition to deport Piers Morgan for "attacking the Second Amendment," which has garnered almost 82,000 signatures. Of course, Morgan is "attacking" the amendment with speech, "an activity that, if memory serves, is addressed somewhere" in another "Amendment-thingy."

Yes, "the First Amendment also protects the right of these 82,000 people to be idiots in public," but it's worth speaking out against them, because their petition is "anti-Americanism in patriot's clothing," telling the world that if Americans disagree with you, they try to get their government to silence you. That's "not just wrong, it's embarrassing," Christopher writes. "This is why we can't have nice things." Click for Christopher's full column. (More Piers Morgan stories.)
