As expected, police in upstate New York have arrested a former neighbor of William Spengler on charges that she illegally sold him weapons he used in this week's assault on firefighters, reports AP. Dawn Nguyen, 24, faces state and federal felony charges. The Democrat and Chronicle of Rochester, however, has details on a weird twist: Nguyen's family says Spengler stole the guns from Nguyen's car but lied in his suicide note to try to get the family in trouble.

Why? In a voicemail to the newspaper, Nguyen's mother, Dawn Welsher, says Spengler had a crush on Welsher and may have felt jilted when the family moved away a few years ago. "This is nuts," she says. I never supplied this man with nothing. My daughter never supplied him with anything. He’s setting us up.” Follow the link to hear her voicemail, or click here for other coverage on the case. (More William Spengler stories.)
