A Vermont shooting range doesn't like what it's hearing from the Burlington City Council, which recently backed a ban on semi-automatic weapons and large-capacity magazines. In response, the firing range has closed its doors to police officers, who have historically trained there, the Burlington Free Press reports. The range's organizers say they can't support the city "with such a prejudice against our club and its members."
"We hope that the council reconsiders its actions and redirects its efforts towards perpetrators of violent crimes and security issues," the statement adds. Says the city council president: "It’s unfortunate that a polarized discussion of this nature has this kind of impact," given that "training facilities are limited in the area." But a ban isn't coming anytime soon, the official notes: The measure won't face voters until March of next year, and the state legislature would have to approve it. (More Burlington, Vermont stories.)
