MIT got a scare this morning as police descended on the campus to investigate reports of a man with a rifle and body armor. The good news is that it turned out to be a false alarm; the bad news is that it doesn't appear to have been an honest mistake: “Report came in as an possible barricaded armed suspect, but it turned out to be a hoax,” says a State Police spokesman. The campus went into lockdown after 7:30, and police declared it safe about three hours later, reports the Boston Globe. (Read more Massachusetts Institute of Technology stories.)
