Pro tip for the Onion: When your joke involves the c-word, it shouldn't also involve a 9-year-old girl. The satirical newspaper is in hot water for one of its Oscar tweets posted last night involving Best Actress nominee Quvenzhane Wallis. The Huffington Post has a screenshot: "Everyone else seems afraid to say it, but that Quvenzhané Wallis is kind of a [c-word], right? #Oscars2013."

The tweet (which "was meant to parody how beloved Quvenzhane is," the AP explains, in case you didn't get it), was deleted after about an hour, by which point it had been retweeted more than 500 times and favorited about 400 times. The Huffington Post rounds up some of the outraged reactions, including this tweet from @Luvvie: "If they called Suri Cruise a [c-word], best believe that by MORNING, the entire staff of @TheOnion would be at the unemployment office." Twitchy takes note of more calls for some Onion staffer's head. (More Quvenzhane Wallis stories.)
