White House: We Had Nothing to Do With Freed Illegals

As the sequestration game of "not it" continues, the White House yesterday insisted it played no part in the decision to release hundreds of detained illegal immigrants, as some Republicans had alleged. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials made the move "without any input from the White House, as a result of fiscal uncertainty over the continuing resolution, as well as possible sequester," said press secretary Jay Carney. A Homeland Security official told the Hill that it was just a larger-scale occurrence of a regular event, noting that ICE transitions illegal immigrants from detention centers into its less expensive supervision program almost daily.
