There's never been a woman in the NFL, but that's not stopping Lauren Silberman. Just by trying out at the NFL regional trials on Sunday, she'll be making history, becoming the first woman to do so, reports the AP. Silberman, 28, has no experience playing organized football, but she did play soccer at the University of Wisconsin, notes USA Today. She secured the invitation to the regional trial after video surfaced online of her making NFL field goals at an exhibition event.
"I am working hard to prepare but I am also realistic about my chances," she says. "I hope my willingness to put myself out there inspires others to seize opportunities and challenges." Even though the odds are long, NFL punter Sean Landeta gives Silberman credit for competing. "I give her points for giving it a shot," he says. "She's obviously following her dream."
