This Man Says He Deserves Entire $1.2M Dorner Reward

The manhunt for killer Christopher Dorner last month spurred more than two dozen donors—from local governments to private individuals—to offer $1.2 million in reward money to capture the former cop. And carjacked camp ranger Rick Heltebrake thinks he deserves it all, reports the Los Angeles Times. Heltebrake owned the truck Dorner stole during his flight through Big Bear. After Dorner drove off, Heltebrake called a San Bernardino deputy sheriff to report what happened, which his lawyer says entitles Heltebrake to the reward money.

Despite earlier reports that a loophole might put an end to the reward, LA officials say they are inclined to hand out the money. However, others were involved in the hunt for Dorner, including Jim and Karen Reynolds, who were tied up by Dorner but managed to break free and call the police. With so many entities offering the reward money, it could take some time for them to meet and agree on who gets what. "Our personal hope is that the reward will be distributed, but we must follow the rules and respect the procedures of each entity," officials say. (More Christopher Dorner stories.)
