David Hasselhoff became a hero to many Germans when he performed his song, "Looking for Freedom," on top of the Berlin Wall in 1989; it became an anthem of the German reunification. But now the Hoff wants to save, not topple, the last standing portion of the wall: He's back in Berlin protesting the razing of the Berlin Wall's East Side Gallery by property developers.

"This last piece of the wall is really sacred, it's the last memorial to the people who died and to the perseverance of freedom," Hasselhoff says. Thousands of fans-slash-protesters were out in force at the East Side Gallery yesterday as he sang "Looking for Freedom" again, this time from a bus, the Guardian reports. Though protesters managed to get demolition suspended this month, the Hoff fears it will eventually move forward because "I don't think I can afford to buy the land," he says. "But we could raise the money—maybe we will." (More David Hasselhoff stories.)
