So much for being civil: A British actor had his ear partly bitten off yesterday after asking people in a hotel to quiet down, the BBC reports. Clive Mantle, 55—who acted in the first season of Game of Thrones—was pinned down to the ground in a Travelodge and had the top part of his right ear chewed off, said a rep for his agent. Luckily surgeons managed to sew it back on, but "he is very shaken and shocked by what has happened," said the rep. "You don't expect this kind of thing to happen in a hotel."
Mantle's agent tells the Mirror a fuller story: The 6-foot, 5-inch actor told a man outside his room to keep things quiet—but when noise resumed, Mantle found "two drunken Scotsmen" in the hall. Mantle threatened to call security, and one of the men attacked: "It was savage," the agent said. Now Mantle says he may have to stop touring with a play that had just finished a run in Newcastle. Police say a 32-year-old Scottish man was arrested for wounding with intent and released on bail; a 22-year-old man was released without charge. (More assault stories.)
