Even animal-rights activists who hate the circus couldn't have dreamed up this potential pitfall: An elephant with Ringling Bros. was wounded overnight in a drive-by shooting in Tupelo, Mississippi, reports the Clarion-Ledger. The good news is that "Carol," who was in an outdoor enclosure at the time, is expected to make a full recovery from her shoulder wound. Police don't know who the shooter is, and the shooter better hope it stays that way. Carol is an endangered Asian elephant, which makes this a federal offense under the Endangered Species Act. PETA is offering a $5,000 reward, notes AP. (More elephant stories.)
