It just keeps getting worse for Mark Sanford. In the wake of the bizarre revelation that his ex-wife has accused him of trespassing, the National Republican Congressional Council has pulled its support for his congressional campaign, reports the Hill. The move comes less than a month before the special election in South Carolina, and Politico sees it as a "potentially fatal blow." All of which is great news for Democratic opponent Elizabeth Colbert Busch, sister of Stephen Colbert.
"We will not be committing resources to this race," says one GOP strategist. "We were completely blindsided by this information. He hasn't been honest with his own campaign and with us and the path to victory has narrowed now." Both stories speculate Republicans are worried that more embarrassing information about Sanford's legal battles and personal life will surface in the coming weeks.
