NY Times to Weiner: Get Out of Mayor's Race

The New York Times has had it with Anthony Weiner. First he lied about the crotch-shots posted online, saying they weren't his. After admitting they were, he disappeared for a while; then he came back, said his life had changed, and entered the mayoral race. But new lewd texts have emerged—from after his resignation. "The timing here matters, as it would for any politician who violates the public’s trust and then asks to have it back," the editors note.

We're seeing "a familiar but repellent pattern of misleading and evasion," they write. "It’s up to Mr. Weiner if he wants to keep running, to count on voters to forgive and forget and hand him the keys to City Hall. But he has already disqualified himself." As for his relationship with his wife, the two "deserved privacy" to address Weiner's issues, "and they had it, until they re-emerged in public life and Mr. Weiner decided he was a good fit to run New York City."
