Still bearing scars on his face from the 1997 crash that killed Princess Diana, bodyguard Trevor Rees told the inquest into her death today that he isn't part of a British cover-up alleged by Mohammed al-Fayed, Reuters reports. "All I have ever done is give the truth as I see it," said Rees, who has little memory of the accident of which he was the sole survivor.

Rees also bluntly quashed al-Fayed's allegation that son Dodi and Diana had picked out an engagement ring the week before their deaths. Rees testified that, had he known that Diana's driver was drinking alcohol, he would have prevented him from driving, the Guardian reports. Bar receipts show Henri Paul had at least two rounds; Rees thought they were cola. (More Princess Diana stories.)
