Leah Remini grabbed plenty of headlines earlier this month with the news that she was parting ways with Scientology. Now she sheds a little (just a little) more light on why, in comments made to People at a Saturday event in Malibu. The meat of her statement:

  • "I believe that people should be able to question things. I believe that people should value family, and value friendships, and hold those things sacrosanct. That for me, that's what I'm about. It wouldn't matter what it was, simply because no one is going to tell me how I need to think, no one is going to tell me who I can, and cannot, talk to. ... I'm not about to shut up."

Us Weekly reports that her Saturday appearance was her first step into the public eye since the news of the church-star split broke. It managed to grab a word with the actress, too, asking her if she was happy. "Happy is a relative word," she replied, describing the present as "a time of change." As for that change, we might get to witness it: Remini says she's planning a return to TV, maybe "in the reality, sitcom world." She promised more on that in the next week.
