A seemingly ironic twist for Pervez Musharraf in Pakistan today: The former leader was supposed to be indicted on charges that his government did nothing to prevent the assassination of Benazir Bhutto in 2007. But Musharraf couldn't show up in court because of death threats against him, reports Reuters. The judge postponed proceedings until Aug. 20, and Musharraf remains under house arrest. If it sounds fishy, the AFP suggests something else might be at play. It cites "lingering speculation" that a deal is in the works to let Musharraf leave the country and thus avoid a trial that would embarrass the military. (More Pervez Musharraf stories.)
