When Dzhokhar Tsarnaev emerged from the boat he had been hiding in, he was bloodied, and now we very clearly know why. Court documents released yesterday detail his specific injuries, the most serious of which was a gunshot wound to the face that ripped into his ear and fractured his skull, reports the Boston Globe. The trauma surgeon who treated him described it in court as "a high-powered injury that has resulted in skull-base fracture, with injuries to the middle ear, the skull base ... his C1 vertebrae ... as well as injury to the pharynx [and] mouth."
The April 22 report also cited "multiple gunshot wounds to the extremities," and the Wall Street Journal adds that his left hand suffered a number of injuries and needed tendon repair. (More Dzhokhar Tsarnaev stories.)
